COMMUNIQUE OF THE MEETING HELD WITH THE DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR ON THE 25TH MAY, 2017

The meeting commenced at 11:50am with introduction of the SRC members, after the introduction, the DVC started by saying that the students were the major stakeholders and so, it is necessary to recognise their presence in the university as "only a fool will fail to recognise this fact"; he thereafter gave a brief recap of the recent occurrences on campus stating the reasons for the industrial actions of various unions on campus.
He thereafter gave room for questions and contributions.

The Speaker stood and appreciated the DVC for the efforts so far, he then started by comparing FUOYE with other universities which came into existence at thesame time and stressed that FUOYE was lagging behind in terms of development and infrastructures and the students has always been suffering from all the battles between the unions and management.

He stated further that the V.C made a lot of promises like organising a proper and formal Innagauration, constant meeting with principal officers and most importantly, the election in the second semester which none of these has surfaced. He then said that all what the Nigerian students are clamouring for now is S.U.G and nothing more,  and failure to do this in this semester might lead to something else and there must be visible steps taken before the end of the two weeks break.

The Dean, students affairs responded by saying that it is not visible to have an SUG within this two weeks but we can have a committee that will source for constitutions from neighbouring Universities.

The DVC then responded that he has taken note of all the points the speaker raised and he will convey the message to the V.C as soon as he gets back. He stated further that steps would have been taken to get the constitutions if not for the on-going strike but nevertheless, he'll convey the message to the V.C.

After this, Comr. Africa stood up and asked if the university had plans of generating income asides the students school fees because it's obvious that the students are the major income generator for the university, he asked why after 6years, we don't have FUOYE water, FUOYE bread, e.t.c to relieve the students from paying high school fees and to allow the students take part-time jobs in these businesses and have some money to sustain themselves as it's been done in other universities.

The DVC responded that it's a very good question and that measures are being taken to tackle that and in  one year from now, we'll start seeing some of these things. He stressed further by saying the university is also planning on working on developing the pre-degree centre and most importantly, the university will commence  postgraduate programmes next year.

The SRC also raised the issue of the change of name from FUOYE to GAUU the DVC said that the management themselves weren't informed before the move but it has not been passed into bill and that even if it will come to be, it will take another 6months from now which invariably means that the present final year students will still have certificates carrying FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OYEEKITI. The Speaker then told the DVC that the students will move against the name but the DVC didn't give a direct answer as he was indifferent about that and said that the management hasn't received a memo to the effect of change of name.
The Dean then concluded and asked the DVC when the SRC should get a feedback annd the DVC said that by monday evenin, the SRC will get a response and urged the SRC to please calm the students down as the management is trying her best to give the best to the Students.

The meeting ended 2:10pm
In attendance were DVC, DSA, nine 9 SRC members (with representatives from oye and ikole campuses) and security personnels.
Thanks.
