Fuoye VC Accused Ekiti State Governor of threatening Him and Supporting the Unions against the school management.

fuoye vc
Fuoye VC

We got this news few days ago, but we had to patiently wait for the confirmation and authentication of the news before posting it on this platform.

While addressing the Press Concerning the Current Crisis between the School Management and Non Teaching staffs of the University, it was stated that the Vice Chancellor accused the Governor of Ekiti State of threatening  Him and Supporting the Unions.

Below is the detailed info of news.

"
The Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Kayode Soremekun, has accused Governor Ayo Fayose of posing threat to his life by giving support to union leaders to destabilize the institution.
The university boss claimed that Fayose sent the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Modupe Alade, to the state police headquarters where the union leaders were detained to facilitate their release.
The detained union chairmen allegedly released on Fayose’s order are Ekundayo Ajibaye of the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Mutiu Ademola of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Adebayo Dada of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU).

Addressing a press conference in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, Soremekun accused Fayose of exerting pressure on him while serving as the Chief Returning Officer for the Edo State governorship election by sending one of his (Fayose’s) aides to him (Soremekun).

He claimed that Fayose had allegedly been after his life after serving as the Chief Returning Officer in Edo Governorship Election held last year September 28, where Governor Godwin Obaseki had defeated the candidate of the PDP, Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Soremekun revealed that during the convocation week of the university held late April, Fayose who was passing through Oye-Ekiti stopped his convoy and personally participated in the destruction of the huge banner hung at the university junction in the town.

He said: “He (Fayose) ordered his convoy to stop and tore the banner of our convocation. He said it was not properly done, he alighted himself and tore it by himself before proceeding on his journey.”

“The unionists were becoming so unruly in recent time. In fact, they beat up some lecturers and we called for their arrest only for the Secretary to the State Government(SSG) to bail them out acting on governor’s directive.

Some lecturers were reportedly attacked by members of the Non - Academic Staff Union and National Association of Academic Technologists, in the lecture room on Wednesday .

“The high point of these inclement activities occurred on June 7 , 2017. On this particular day, the workers , as usual , laid a siege on the university . They proceeded to inflict physical harm on members of the university community . Various individuals went through harrowing experiences in the hands of these misguided individuals. ”
He gave the names of the victims as the Dean of Faculty of Engineering , Prof . B . Alabadan ; Dr . A . A Fajinmi, Dr . Olatunde Oyelaran , Mr. Olawale Sanusi, Dr . Kikelomo Oluwalola, Dr . Olusayo Olubosede , Mr. Gabriel Okoli , Tunde Ogundana and the Director of Pre - Degree, Dr . Akindola.

The VC insisted that the suspension slammed on the union leaders would subsist in spite of the threats and unruly behaviour against the management members .
He disclosed that he had written to the Minister of Education , Adamu Adamu and the National Universities Commission on the issue .
“I want to commend the patience and maturity of the law abiding members of the university community . The students have been most understanding ,” he added.

Reacting through his Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, Fayose said he has no business with the university.

He said: “Beyond maintaining peace and protecting the rights of all residents of Ekiti State, Governor Fayose does not have any business with Federal University, Oye Ekiti.
“The Vice Chancellor is the one that should search his conscience whether or not he is doing the right thing concerning the management of the University.”

“Be that as it may, it sounds so illogical that the head of a university will stand before the press to say that university staff members should be arrested and detained by the police for protesting.”

Angry Members Of NASU Of FUOYE Disrupt The School Campus.

campus

The members of Non Academic Staffs Union on Wednesday 7th June, 2017 took control of the University Premises.

The riot occurred today inside both Oye and Ikole campus which led to beating of some teaching staffs (Lecturers) and closure of the school.

Unfortunately the dean of faculty of Engineering was beaten and Students who tried protecting some lecturers were also beaten.

Also a report reaching us from a lecturer (name withheld) says his car windscreen was damaged in the process of the riot.

The police and security intervention was actually not enough because police don't have permission to directly enter the school.

A reliable source from ASUU Fuoye chapter said the union has directed her Members to stop research and lectures with immediate effect.  So no more lectures till further notice.

No news from the management yet.

So we at Fuoyehub advise all students to be very careful and wait patiently from reliable sources before going into the school
