The Vice Chancellor, Federal University Oye – Ekiti, Professor Kayode Soremekun has said his administration has recorded strides in spite of the paucity of Funds confronting the institution. Professor Soremekun dropped the hint while playing host to the House of Representatives Committee on Education in his office.
According
to the Vice Chancellor, out of the One Hundred Million Naira approved
as recurrent expenditure in the 2017 budget so far only Ten Million
Naira has been released to FUOYE. In spite of this, Professor Soremekun
said his administration has not rested on its oars to sustain the seven
faculties and Forty Nine academic programmes in the institution adding
that more faculties will soon come on board. The academic luminary said
he was aware of all the efforts the Federal Government was making to
ensure the growth of the education sector and would continue to key into
all government Programmes towards quality education in the Country.
In
his remark the House Committee Chairman on Tertiary Education, Hon.
Aminu Suleiman said they were in FUOYE as part of the oversight function
of the House. He said the visit was to rob minds with management so as
to establish their success stories, prospects and challenges. He
expressed the willingness of the Committee to assist the institution in
its quest for rapid development through the formulation of Laws that are
education friendly.
On a general note,
the visiting members expressed delight with what they saw in FUOYE whom
they acknowledged was already above its peers in many spheres.
